Da Vinci Code & Opus Dei

I read the Da Vinci Code a couple of years ago when I was living in Rome...and was blown away by its blasphemous statements and inaccurate "facts". It seemed like every page contained at least one thing that made me yell in anger (due to its Christian orthodoxy bashing) or disgust (due to its pathetic historical research).

Anyway, the stupid movie is coming out this may with Tom Hanks and it will probably make a bagillion dollars. However, our friends at Opus Dei (who are unfairly attacked throughout the novel) are doing their best to use the added attention (albeit negative) to promote the positive works of the prelature.

First of all, check out Fr. John Wauck's blog The Da Vinci Code & Opus Dei. He has made it his mission demonstrate the many inaccuracies of the book. Father John is a good friend of mine from Rome and is absolutely one of the brightest people I've ever met.

In addition, Opus Dei is planning on doing signficant PR in the months leading to the movie's release, which flies right in the face of the common criticism that they are "too secretive".

Also, Good Morning America did a brief report on Opus Dei and the Da Vinci Code this morning (Father John is actually in it briefly). Here is the link if you are interested.
